Essence Shoffner, from Liberty, NC, began dancing at the age of three in Burlington, NC. She trained in various styles of dance, such as African, Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, and Modern. Essence continued her passion for dance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the Fall of 2015.
During her four years as a dance major at UNCG, Essence performed in various concerts and deepened her knowledge and love for dance. She became a member and captain of the Spartan G’s Dance Team for two years, and found her true calling for teaching dance. In the Spring of 2019, Essence graduated from UNCG with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with K-12 Licensure and an English minor.
Essence began teaching at BDC in the Summer of 2019. During her time at BDC she has taught Ballet, Contemporary, and Jazz. In the Fall of 2019, Essence became the head dance teacher at Hugh M. Cummings High School. Essence’s life is all dance, all the time, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
