Betsy Walker grew up studying dance in her mother’s studio in Wilson, North Carolina. Before graduation from high school, she spent her summers studying ballet, modern, flamenco, jazz and Bharata Natyam in Bar Harbor, Maine and Estoril, Portugal. She performed with the Raleigh Civic Ballet her junior and senior years in high school and attended The Governor’s School of North Carolina summer before her senior year.
Following graduation she danced in the outdoor drama, The Lost Colony in Manteo, North Carolina. Betsy earned a BFA in dance from The Juilliard School in New York City, an MA from University of Houston/Clear Lake and a NC teacher’s license in dance education from University of North Carolina/Greensboro. She retired from Alamance Burlington School System July 1, 2014, where she taught in the system for 25 years.
In 2011, she established Burlington Dance Center. Betsy is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. Betsy’s family includes her husband Jim, son Jordan and sweetest Pit Bull Terrier ever, Bella.
