Betsy Walker



Betsy Walker grew up studying dance in her mother’s studio in Wilson, North Carolina.  Before graduation from high school, she spent her summers studying ballet, modern, flamenco, jazz and Bharata Natyam in Bar Harbor, Maine and Estoril, Portugal.  During these summers, she studied with Madame Hilda Butsova, George Zoritch, Anna Marie and David Holmes, Murray Lewis, Luis Montero and Nala Najan.

She attended the North Carolina Governor’s School her junior year of high school.  She also performed with the Raleigh Civic Ballet.  Following her graduation from high school, Betsy danced in the outdoor drama, The Lost Colony in Manteo, North Carolina.

After attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for one year, she transferred to The Juilliard School in New York City and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance.  While studying at Juilliard, she performed with the Lincoln Center Student Touring Program in many public schools in New York City.  Upon graduation, she performed with     The Light Opera of Manhattan and with the Larry Richardson Modern Dance Company.

Betsy continued her education at the University of Houston and earned an MA in Humanities and finally a G certificate in dance education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Betsy has taught dance in Alamance County at Cummings and Williams High Schools, Turrentine Middle School and presently continues to teach at Western Middle School.  Betsy also worked at Walkerdance in Elon from 2006-2011 where she taught the Junior and Senior Companies, choreographed many parts of Nutcracker and choreographed for the Spring Garden Performance.

Betsy loves teaching privately and is very excited to own Burlington Dance Center.  She very much enjoys working with the students and parents.  She is looking forward to working with the talented staff at BDC.

Betsy is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.

Betsy lives in Burlington with her husband Jim and son, Jordan.  When she is not working, she loves to walk, read and occasionally, cook.
